1. England Veterans Finally Performing
The biggest argument against every previous England manager was why they had always persisted to continue playing the under-performing veteran players. With the way England have been playing of late, it's no longer a debate as Hodgson has been getting the best from the more-capped players in the squad. Naming Steven Gerrard as his captain indefinitely has proven to be one of the wisest decisions made with the Liverpool midfielder shining for England of late. Wayne Rooney is also showing some of his best form in an England shirt, and looks to be enjoying his football again. The infamous video clip of the 27-year old sarcastically saying 'Nice to see your home fans boo ya!' in the aftermath of a poor 0-0 performance against Algeria in the 2010 World Cup is now a distant memory. It's time for him to create new ones. Rooney and Gerrard have been named man of the match in recent games for the national team, and have been leading the side by example.
While youth is important, experience is invaluable. And to see the experienced players shining in an England shirt bodes well for their chances.
