England vs Denmark: Who Is Going To Brazil?

Luke Shaw - The 18 year old's 45 minute debut was a decent performance, arguably better than Cole in the first half. However, Shaw would have had to do something incredible with his half an appearance to match all that the more senior player has in his 107. Shaw will be the victim of his manager plumping for the tried and tested for now, but he has a great England future ahead of him and his time will come. Andros Townsend - With the wealth of wing talent available to Hodgson, somebody will have to miss out and, judging by his less than 5 minutes against Denmark, that someone may well be Townsend. With his strong performance in the final World Cup qualifiers and Walcott's injury, Townsend looked to have a good shot at a place in Brazil. Since then, though, injuries and an inability to hold down a regular starting place in a patchy Spurs team has seen other in form players like Sterling move ahead of him in the England pecking order. Tom Cleverley - Hodgson is far too experienced and confident in his own judgment to pay much attention to an internet petition. However, even away from the internet haters it has become fairly clear that Cleverley is simply not capable of taking control of the midfield against the world's best. The lack of any playing time at all against Denmark suggests Hodgson has grasped that he has better options available than the mediocre Man United midfielder. Jay Rodriguez - Another player who made the squad for this week's game but didn't make it onto the pitch, Rodriguez is the least likely of the four current England internationals in the Southampton team to make it to Brazil. While his league form for Saints has been excellent, better than England teammate Rickie Lambert, his one England appearance was pretty lacklustre. Rodriguez needed the Denmark game to prove himself worthy of inclusion. That Hodgson did not put him on the pitch at all suggests the manager does not see J-Rod in the final squad.
