England's Euro 2021 Starting XI
5. James Maddison - Centre Midfield
Potential candidates: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Phil Foden.
The 23-year-old joined Leicester in the summer of 2018 and his stock has rapidly risen. He is a vital part of the Leicester team that is currently fighting for a Champions League place, and has appeared in all but one Premier League game so far this season.
Maddison is proving to the world why so many big clubs are after his signature. He is the perfect playmaker. There is no doubt that he will add to his single England cap in the near future.
Inch perfect passing and crossing is expected from this man every time he touches the ball. Because of this, he can be in the running for set-piece taker thanks in large part down to his tremendous delivery.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is often on the periphery at Liverpool and that won't help his England chances but regardless of that, he is still looked highly upon by Southgate so don't be surprised to see him at the tournament - just not in the first team.
Phil Foden is only 20-years-old and already has many admirers, including Pep Guardiola, who said that Foden is the "most talented player" he has ever seen. Sadly (for him), Guardiola still doesn't seem him as a first-team regular, and he often plays in cup games or off the bench. Unless he gets a lot more game time next season, don't expect to see the Manchester City player starting for England at the Euros.
