England's Euro 2021 Starting XI

Potential candidate: Declan Rice.

The Liverpool captain may not be everybody's cup of tea, but there is no doubt that he is a very good player. Not necessarily in relation to pure footballing ability, but his leadership skills get him into the starting 11.

The 29-year-old would also bring some valuable experience into a very young team.

The only potential issue with playing Henderson in a defensive position is that England would be wasting a partnership with Alexander-Arnold. On the right-hand side of Liverpool's midfield three, Henderson and Alexander-Arnold have been dominating teams. The Liverpool right-back is able to push high up the wing with Henderson covering his position. If Henderson plays deep and covers the central defenders this tactic wouldn't work, thus potentially leaving a gaping hole on the right side of the pitch.

Declan Rice will almost certainly be an England regular in the near future, as he excels in the defensive midfield role. His short passing is superb and he is not afraid to run with the ball if needed. The only thing standing in his way is the vast experience of the Liverpool captain.
