Two goals from Alan Dzagoev helped Russia sink the Czech Republic at the Stadion Miejski in Wrocaw. Russia went into the break with a comfortable two nil lead. Alan Dzagoev put them ahead after 15 minutes after firing in a rebound following Aleksandr Kerzhakovs header hit the post. Roman Shirokov doubled their lead 9 minutes later with a neat chip over Petr Cech. The Czechs were not about to quit and pulled one back shortly after half time. Vaclav Pilar latched onto an incisive through ball to round the Russian keeper and slot home. But that fight back was thwarted by a Russian team looking to make a statement. Aleksandr Kerzhakov missed two glorious chances to put the game beyond doubt. The misses saw Manager Dick Advocaat replace him with striker Roman Pavlyuchenko. The changes prompted Dzagoev to score his second on 78 minutes with Pavlyuchenko sealing the win three minutes later. This victory puts Russia at the top of Group A following the draw between Greece and hosts Poland earlier in the day. The Czechs will hope to bounce back against Greece on Tuesday, while Russia will be looking to seal qualification to the last eight when they take on Poland on the same day.
