European Football Weekend Review - Lionel Messi Saves Barcelona's Blushes

France

It€™s the third week of the Ligue One season and PSG have yet to win a game. Despite spending over 140 euros during the transfer window the Parisians can€™t seem to gel and the future of Carlo Ancelotti is becoming increasingly uncertain. They enjoyed a majority of the possession and had four shots on target but they were unable to beat the Bordeaux keeper as they drew 0-0. The 11-12 champions Montpellier remain in the relegation zone following a 1-0 loss to Marseille. Elie Baup has turned the fortunes of the Stade Velodrome team around and now they reside in the top spot with nine points from their three games. Under the management of Didier Deschamps the coastal side had become methodical and lethargic but the appointment of the Baup, who had been out of management since his dismissal from Nantes in 2009, seems to have breathed new life into them. Lille are enjoying a mediocre start to the season after their 2-2 draw against Nice, leaving them 8th with 5 points. It took a goal from Michel Bastos for Lyon to earn a point at Evian but the championship contenders will be worried about their defence, which gave the 17th place side 13 shots on goal. The promoted teams had mixed results. Troyes earned a 2-2 draw against 7th placed Lorient and Reims defeated Sochaux, who remain bottom of the table. Bastia couldn€™t continue their great run of results as they lost 3-2 to Rennes thanks to a late goal from Erdinc.
