Everton: 10 Reasons Lukaku And Barkley Are Best Signings Of 2014

5. Learning From Past Mistakes

The club seem to have a history of letting their best players leave the club. Last season they let Marouane Fellaini leave for Manchester United fora fee of £27.5million after he was easily one of their best performing players of the season. Whilst he failed to become a hit at Old Trafford, it was still a bit of a kick in the teeth for the supporters. In the past they have also let Mikel Arteta, Jack Rodwell, Joleon Lescott and possibly most famously, Wayne Rooney leave the club following bids from Premier League rivals. Rooney went on to score over 150 goals for Manchester United and became one of the world's best players. While Everton received a massive amount of money for the striker, they still surrendered one of their best players to a club considered better than them. That seems to have changed as they have retained the services of two of their stand out players of last season in Lukaku and Barkley, which could signal a change and an evolution of the club as potential top four contenders. Martinez seems highly reluctant to let his best players leave the club, to the satisfaction of both Everton supporters and fans of the Premier League in general who want a more competitive league.
