scouted the 24-year-old at the weekend with Martinez looking for a defender who can play in the middle and can also operate on the right. Alderweireld possesses this versatility which makes him an attractive option - as does the fact his contract expires in 2014 and he is not willing to sign a renewal at the Amsterdam Arena. Signing the Belgian would be something of a coup for Martinez considering he has attracted interest from Premier League heavyweights
Liverpool and Tottenham and nabbing the £6 million-rated defender would go some way to winning over the fans.
