Everton Transfer News: Predicting Roberto Martinez's 5 August Signings

3. Joey Barton

Joey Barton The controversial QPR midfielder is back in England again following his loan spell at Marseille and is apparently keen on a move to Everton this summer - and a return to the Premier League. The outspoken 30-year-old is prepared to take a wage cut to make the move happen and is a boyhood fan of the club having grown up in Merseyside. The midfielder's last appearance in the Premier League was on the final day of the 2011/12 campaign as City won the title following a dramatic 3-2 victory over QPR at the Etihad, a game of which also saw Barton pick up a crazy red card. The former Newcastle man tried to elbow Carlos Tevez and kicked Sergio Aguero as he was hauled from the pitch before picking up a huge 12-match-ban, part of which he served in France. And it is controversies such as these that have led to Everton legend Neville Southall warning his old club off signing the fiery Englishman. But Barton could still be a decent acquisition considering he is combative and has high energy levels, much like Marouane Fellaini, who the Toffee's may lose this summer.
