2. James McCarthy
Martinez is in the market for a young central midfielder this summer. And one option there is McCarthy, who Martinez worked with at the DW Stadium for four years. Martinez signed the youngster for Wigan from Hamilton Academical in 2009 and since then the Scotland-born Republic of Ireland international has gone on to excel with the Latics, and was part of the team that won the FA Cup in May. McCarthy became the first outfield Irishman to win an FA Cup in seven years and enjoyed a close working relationship with Martinez during their days together at Wigan, with the player
heralding his manager as a "tactical genius". The Glaswegian is certainly combative and is good in possession, not giving up the ball without a fight, and it is these traits that make him similar to Fellaini, who continues to be
linked with Arsenal and Man Utd. And if the Belgian does go, the Wigan man might be one of Martinez's ex-players Everton fans wouldn't mind seeing at Goodison Park this season.
