Everton vs Spurs: Player Ratings

James McCarthy: Blocked a Townsend shot over. Naïve foul on Vertonghen too and booked for it. Offered better protection for back four in second half. 6/10. Gareth Barry: Put out fires whenever he could. A very canny loan signing by Martinez and McCarthy alongside him can learn plenty from him. 6/10. Kevin Mirallas: Caught offside first half. Great run on counter in second, but blocked off and booked for dissent. Needs to perform consistently else he'll be on the bench at the World Cup. Subbed. 5/10. Leon Osman: Sliced a sighter over the bar and drew a free kick from Sandro, but hardly a contribution worthy of replacing Barkley. Subbed. 5/10. Steven Pienaar: Faded in and out of this game. It's displays like this which explains why he got little football at Spurs. Like Mirallas consistency is an issue. 5/10. Romelu Lukaku: Rarely had runners beyond in first half. Improved as a focal point after the break. Michael Dawson did just enough against him. Harshly booked for colliding with Lloris. Subbed and seen with ice pack on knee. 6.5/10. Subs: Gerard Deulofeu: Worked Lloris after wriggling away from three Spurs defenders after coming on. Raw talent showed glimpses in this cameo. 6/10. Ross Barkley: Added something extra in the final third when he came on for Osman. You wonder why Martinez dropped him. 6/10. Nikica Jelavic: Late appearance, but had no time to impact the game.
