Everton: Worst Ever Premier League XI

6. Niclas Alexandersson (LM)

Swedish midfielder Niclas Alexandersson actually featured more prominently as a right-winger for Everton than on the left, but as someone much worse than the Sweden international occupies that position in this team he will inhabit the left wing berth in this side. The winger initially began his time in England at Sheffield Wednesday, signed by then manager Ron Atkinson for a fee of £750,000 from Swedish side IFK Göteburg. He quickly became a fan favourite in his three seasons in Sheffield, winning the Player of the Season award in the year that saw the team finish nineteenth and be relegated from the Premier League after nine successive seasons of top division football. Following that relegation, he signed for Everton in a £2.5m deal where he played from 2000 till 2003. He initially featured regularly in his first two seasons on Merseyside, before losing his place after a succession of injuries and the arrival of David Moyes. He struggled with fitness and form, unable to break into the Everton side and spent some time on loan at West Ham United before returning to Sweden with his second club IFK Göteborg, where he made a further 124 league appearances before retiring in 2009.
