Everton’s 2004/05 Champions League Qualifying Squad – Where Are They Now?

1. Richard Wright

Richard Wright was once was of England€™s most promising young keepers, but his Everton career was blighted by injuries and he spent 2004-05 as backup to Nigel Martyn. He lost his place in the team to the veteran during the previous season, when a knee injury kept him sidelined for much of the campaign, and was released by Moyes in 2007. Wright went on to become something of a journeyman. A season with West Ham came next, followed by spells at Sheffield United and Preston North End, as well as second and third stints with former club Ipswich Town and various loan escapades. These days, he plies his trade at the unlikely destination of Manchester City, but lies down the pecking order behind preferred stoppers Joe Hart and Willy Caballero. In his three-and-a-half years at the Etihad, Wright has never made a competitive appearance.
