After bursting onto the scene at hometown club Newcastle United, Andy Carroll was tipped by many to become England's next top striker after averaging better than a goal every other game on his final season on Tyneside.

After having several bids rejected and desperate to replace fellow list entrant Fernando Torres who had left earlier that day, Liverpool managed to sign the powerful forward on deadline day in January 2011 for a cool £35 million.

Unfortunately, Carroll's form would disappear at Anfield, scoring just six goals in 44 league games before being offloaded to West Ham with Liverpool recouping less than half of what they had paid for the Geordie giant.
