Younger football fans may only know David Moyes as the man given the unenviable task of taking over an ageing squad at Manchester United and succeeding the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in an ill-fated stint that was effectively doomed from the start.

However, prior to moving into management Moyes enjoyed a decent career across his native Scotland and the lower divisions of English football. Having earned a reputation as a dependable full-back, Moyes ended his playing career with a long stint at Preston North End where he briefly played alongside none other than David Beckham before taking over as manager of the Lancashire club in 1999.
