Every UEFA Champions League Final Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Manchester United 2-1 Bayern Munich (1999)

Manchester United’s dramatic comeback win over Bayern Munich in the Nou Camp back in 1999 was a unique one.

The game itself, for the most part, wasn’t anywhere close to being a classic. Manchester United didn’t turn up.

It didn’t take long for Bayern to establish their obvious superiority either, with Mario Basler breaking the deadlock after six minutes with a low free kick goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel should have done better with.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s team had plenty of possession but created few clear-cut chances. Bayern, by contrast, had numerous opportunities to finish the game off, the most notable being a Carsten Jancker overhead kick that crashed off the bar.

No one could have predicted what would come next, which is perhaps why it remains so special.

With just three minutes of injury time left, a United corner fell to Thorsten Fink in his own box. His attempted clearance ended up at the feet of Ryan Giggs.

Though the Welshman’s shot at goal was weak and going wide, it somehow crossed the path of substitute Teddy Sheringham who swiped it into the goal.

Suddenly Bayern were reeling, giving away another corner almost immediately from the kick-off. Sheringham made the difference again, heading the ball on for fellow sub Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to tap home.

The Bavarians were devastated, struggling to even muster the energy to restart the game. The final whistle blew seconds later. As Ferguson famously reflected: “Football... bloody hell!”
