Sky Sports News understands Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini will not be considered for the vacant manager's position at St James' Park. The 32-year-old had been installed as favourite for the role by most bookmakers after Alan Pardew was given permission to talk to Crystal Palace yesterday. United and Palace agreed a compensation package of around £2 million for the 53-year-old's services. Now, Sky Sports' Keith Downie, reporting from the club's Benton training ground, has been informed Ashley will look elsewhere as he searches for a suitable replacement for Pardew. He said, "it is our understanding from the club that he won't be considered as yet for the position. He's still only 32 and he has a lot to give in his playing career." Downie later reiterated: "It's our understanding he won't be considered." Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, who is currently on holiday in Barbados, looked ready to turn to the long-serving central defender to take over as his seventh manager in seven and a half years at the club. Former Argentine international Coloccini is one of United's longest serving players having joined from Deportivo La Coruña in 2008. He was part of the side that was relegated to the Championship but stuck with the club and led them to a fifth placed Premier League finish and European qualification in 2012. Despite alleged personal troubles and a desire to return to Argentina, Coloccini led The Magpies to a top 10 finish last season. The rumours of Captain Colo's appointment had the football world quite literally in stitches. Thankfully, it seems sense has prevailed and Newcastle will look for a tried and trusted manager to take them forward.
