Fantasy Football Tips: 4 Reasons To Get Rid Of (Almost) Every Man Utd Player
2. The Midfield Can't Get Their Act Together
After an expected good start to life at Manchester, Juan Mata has seen his form neutralised by Uniteds lack of fluidity and carelessness at the back. With just 11 points in his last four appearances, it is baffling that his selection rate is at 10.1 percent considering his unappealing price point of £9.5m. When your highest scoring midfielder is a 19 year-old Belgian who is only behind Gareth Bale in the all-time list of top-flight divers despite making just 22 appearances, the rest of your midfield dont need much introduction. Micheal Carrick (£5.5m), Ashley Young (£7.1m), Luis Nani (£6.9m) etc. have been major disappointments this season. Even Fernando Torres has more points than them. That alone should convince you that you shouldnt be wasting precious roster space and limited funds on United midfielders that are going to be troubled in the remaining games. Tom Cleverley (£5.6m) is not going to end the season particularly well, with the public pressure taking its toll on the gifted Englishman. Only on one occasion did he score more than three points this season, against Aston Villa, where he put in an impressive all-round display to get himself 10 points. Talk about contrast. Ryan Giggs (£4.9m) and Shinji Kagawa (£7.1m) aren't getting the minutes; not like they'll contribute much either given David Moyes' frustrating preference in asking his players to send crosses in. Marouane Fellaini, costing £7.7m, is clearly way, way overpriced. I'm looking at the 3.5% of players who still have him in your team. If you're splurging around this price bracket, players like Yaya Touré (£10.1m), Steven Gerrard (£9.3m), Adam Lallana (£8.2m), Kevin Nolan (£7.1m) and Adam Johnson (£6.5m) are players you can consider buying to replace your failing Red Devils. I've done detailed analysis on them in my previous editions, so click on the names and you'll be directed to their respective pages. Touré, Gerrard, Lallana and Nolan are among the top 5 of the highest scoring midfielders in the game, with a combined total of 569 points among them. Johnson meanwhile had a terrific four week run which saw him score an average of 12.75 points per game. While his form has dropped slightly, his consistent performances, despite not making the contributions that are translated to points, the Manchester City benchwarmer recently passed the 100 point mark after a 0-0 against Crystal Palace this week. With a final tally of 150 points expected, Johnson will certainly be a better deal any day over world diving champion Young and Nani, who cost £0.6m and £0.4m more than the England international. Manchester Uniteds offense has been struggling. The creative unit have only managed to create 296 chances this season, with a turnaround of 46 goals. To put this into perspective, their shooting accuracy is the same as rock-bottom Fulham. Swansea City, who are locked in a relegation battle, has managed 303 chances, 7 more than United. Even Wigan completed more dribbles (7 vs United's 6.2) per game. Oh dear.
