United crashed to their worst start to a league campaign since 1989 shortly before the international break while the Dutchman hasn't been in the same sort of inspired form that made him such a fearsome forward last term. Van Persie only has a modest three goals to his name so far, two of which came against Swansea City on the opening day of the season. However, the former Arsenal captain was in the news for positive reasons over the weekend after breaking Patrick Kluivert's record as Holland's all-time top goalscorer by sinking a hat-trick in the 8-1 caning of Hungary last Friday. And United fans will certainly be hoping that potency in front of goal carries over into their clash with the division's surprise form side Southampton on Saturday. The Saints are no mugs, sitting fourth in the table above the Red Devils having beaten the likes of Liverpool along the way.
