6. The Pukki Party

The Pukki Party, short-lived though it was, was the Norwich Fantasy Football fan’s equivalent of Woodstock.

Newly-promoted Norwich had a lethal finisher in Teemu Pukki and it looked like he might be the man to score the goals needed to keep them in the top flight.

The cultural phenomenon that was the Pukki Party can be traced back to Saturday, 17 August – better known as Gameweek 2.

In the opening game of the season Norwich had played pretty well despite losing 4-1 to Liverpool at Anfield, with Pukki getting Norwich’s consolation goal.

In Gameweek 2, they were up against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle side at Carrow Road, where the Finnish international went on to score a hattrick including a sumptuous volley.

He walked away with 17 points, and from there the Fantasy Football hedonists made their way to the new hottest ticket in town.

Norwich had injuries galore and faced tough fixtures but that didn’t stop Pukki hauling 11 points away to Chelsea and another 12 points in the Canaries’ landmark 3-2 win at home to the champions Manchester City two weeks later.

Pukki’s flame burned bright in FPL but in a flash it was gone.

After the game against Man City in Gameweek 5, Pukki didn’t score again until Gameweek 14 – with only one assist in between for those who stuck around for the after party hoping it would pick up again.
