5. Jermain Defoe - £8m

Could 2017-18 be the season age finally catches up with Jermain Defoe? The 34-year-old forward's past two campaigns were among his career's most productive, with him notching 15 goals in each, making him the only thing separating Sunderland from complete and utter drudgery. His goals couldn't keep the Wearsiders up last season, however, and he has now moved on to Eddie Howe's Bournemouth.

If Defoe can keep cheating Father Time, he's definitely going to be one of Fantasy's most worthwhile pick-ups in 2017-18. His goalscoring record speaks for itself, and this translated into 166 points last season, making him a snip at £8m for 2017/18.

There's a chance that Defoe will have to share the goalscoring spotlight with Josh King, but his points per pound ratio was higher than Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, and a host of others last season. His instincts are as sharp as ever, and while his athleticism has naturally declined, there's a chance he'll still be one of the Premier League's sharpest goal-sniffers when he hits the pitch for Bournemouth. Snap Defoe up now, even if he's just a back-up option.
