Fantasy Premier League Tips: 17 Best Opening Day Performances Analysed

10. Ross Barkley (Everton) - 10 points

The second of the surprise packages from Saturday's action, although this is less of a surprise to those in the know. The 19-year-old scored a stunning goal to rescue Everton a point this weekend, and is a product of their youth system. The prodigious talent played a lot in pre-season, and could feature regularly this season, after two seasons on the periphery with David Moyes. Whether he plays or not could well depend on whether Everton acquire Gareth Barry or not; the 32-year-old is understood to be on Martinez' wish-list after being told he is surplus to City's requirements this season.

9. Christian Benteke (Aston Villa) - 10 points

The prolific front-man netted his opening two goals of the season as Aston Villa shocked Arsenal at the Emirates. 10 points, and a good start for both himself and the 23.9% that have him on their Fantasy Premier League teams. The catches? Both effectively came from the spot - he missed the first spot-kick, but netted the rebound, and made no mistake with the second one. A yellow card and a 3 bonus finished what can only be described as an eventful day for the talismanic striker. Whether he's worth the £9 million price tag will be found out in the next few games, as they face a tough challenge at Chelsea, before hosting Liverpool in a challenging opening to the season. With no game in Gameweek 3, there's certainly no incentive to buy him at this stage. Sit and wait on this one, if he scores a few in Stamford Bridge and at home to Liverpool, he might be a worthy snoop before Gameweek 4.
