Fantasy Premier League Tips 2014: 15 Best Point-Per-Pound Buys

8. Shane Long (Southampton) £6.0m

Last Season's Points Total: 97. Shane Long has been a relatively consistent scorer wherever he's played in recent years. The Irishman scored 44 goals in 95 league starts for Reading, 19 goals in 60 league starts for West Bromwich Albion and 4 goals in 15 starts for Hull City (though not all of those came in the Premier League), which are all fairly decent records. He also has 11 goals in 47 international caps for the Republic of Ireland. He has just joined Southampton for £12 million - which, rest assured, means he will be the main man up top for the Saints - and, at £6 million in the fantasy league game, you really can't go wrong with him. All in all last season - in appearances for both West Brom and Hull - he scored seven goals and got two assists. Expect a dramatic improvement on those statistics this season as he looks to justify his fee to new Southampton boss Ronald Koeman.
