6. Right Wing: Ángel Di María - £59 Million

Ángel Di María is one of the most frustrating footballers of the modern era. He has all the skill and qualities necessary to be one of the best players in the world, but he's never been able to use them on a consistent basis.

Di María signed for Real Madrid in 2010. He made 125 appearances for Madrid over the course of four seasons, scoring 25 goals and making 62 assists. Not bad stats for a right winger, and so he made a record-breaking transfer to Manchester United in 2014, coming in around £59 million. He was given the number 7 shirt that had been worn by Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, so expectations were fairly high.

Well, suffice to say Di María fell short of those expectations. He completely failed to adapt to English football and was deemed the worst signing of the year by The Telegraph. At the beginning of the next season, Di María was nowhere to be found and Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal said he missed his flight from Paris. Four days later he signed for Paris Saint-Germain, where he has been for the past four years. A total waste of money.
