Fulham Set To Sign Pavel Pogrebnyak Subject To Work Permit

Russian international set to join from Stuttgart if granted a work permit.

Fulham are set to sign Stuttgart striker Pavel Pogrebnyak after the 28 year old Russian international passed his medical at Craven Cottage, provided he is successfully granted a work permit for the move. The striker is a long-term target of Martin Jol, who finally got his man after it became clear that he would not sign a new contract at the Bundesliga club, where his contract runs out in the summer, and it began to look like Bobby Zamora would leave. With Zamora reportedly on the brink of moving across West London to rivals QPR, it seems Martin Jol sees Pogrebnyak as the ideal replacement. Zamora is yet to sign at QPR, with personal terms proving the sticking point at this stage - but Pogrebnyak's move is all but done depending on the Home Office's decision on his work permit. At the minute the deal looks to be a loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent free transfer once the striker's contract runs out and depending on form in the final months of the season. Jol and Fulham fans will hope that the Russian can refind the form that helped Zenit St Petersburg win the UEFA Cup in 2008.
