Known as 'Captain America' during his brief run as the captain of Rangers, Carlos Bocanegra was a talented defender who had lost a fair bit of pace by the time he signed on at the club in 2011. Coming in from French side, Saint-Etienne, the American cost Rangers £400,000, but that seemed to be money well spent from someone who had also played over 100 times for Fulham in the English Premier League.

Just a year after he joined, Bocanegra was on the way out, and it was clear he was far from keen to play in the fourth tier of Scottish football, once it became clear that this is where Rangers would be placed post-liquidation of the business. Regardless, Ally McCoist made him captain once more for the 2012-2013 season in the Third Division, but it wasn't long before the central defender was looking for a move.

Joining Raving Santander on loan in Spain, Bocanegra would later move back to his homeland, signing for Chivas USA in MLS. From there, he retired in 2014, and now works as a pundit for the league, as well as working to get his coaching badges.
