Recently, in the Scottish media, Lee McCulloch has expressed his regret over being made a "scapegoat" for the poor season Rangers had during the 2014-2015 campaign. As captain however, few fans have sympathy for the players leaving the club at the end of last season, because the performance level was undoubtedly extremely poor, and McCulloch did nothing to cover himself in glory as the man tasked with wearing the armband.

Now a coach at Kilmarnock, Lee McCulloch was someone Rangers fans really found inspiring during the whole mess the Ibrox side were in at the tail end of season 2011-2012. Hammering home then-manager Ally McCoist's message of, 'We don't do walking away', McCulloch said he would play for free if that's what it would take for Rangers to survive, and stuck by the club, agreeing to transfer over his contract.

For sticking around and helping Rangers back to a composite level, the Scottish Championship, a lot of fans are thankful to McCulloch. On the other side of the coin, he was reportedly on £17k per week last season, which was simply too much for a poor level of performance.
