Gus Poyet will take charge. The Uruguayan has become the North East club's sixth manager in just five years and joins Sunderland off the back of his recent dismissal from former club Brighton & Hove Albion. Big things are expected of the former Chelsea and Tottenham player-turned-coach, following his successes with the Seagulls having guided them out of League One and to the Championship Play-Off semi-final last season. The Black Cats are certainly in need of a bit of magic - rock bottom of the Premier League without a win in their first seven games, there is a worrying feeling they'll be cut adrift by Christmas. These are worrying times for Sunderland, with only Chelsea more prolific when it comes to sacking managers in recent seasons.
