Joe Calzaghe's 5 Most Career Defining Victories

1. Roy Jones, Jr. (08/11/2008)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gdWjBWoQ58 Joe Calzaghe had always dreamed of fighting at the famous 'Mecca of Boxing' - New York's Madison Square Garden - and he achieved that dream in his final outing as a professional prizefighter against the legendary, future Hall of Famer Roy Jones, Jr. For the second bout in succession, Calzaghe was knocked down in the opening stanza, although replays showed that this was the consequence of an accidental forearm. But it was plain sailing for Calzaghe after that, winning the remaining 11 rounds. Calzaghe was nearly able to force a stoppage after Jones was suffering with a bad cut above his right eye sustained in the 7th round. Calzaghe's trademark speed and blistering combinations were all too much for the aged Jones. All three ringside judges scored the fight 118-109 in Calzaghe's favour, meaning he retained his RING light heavyweight championship. Jones had come off a win against Felix Trindidad, but no-one was under any illusions that Calzaghe had beat a prime Jones, far from it. Jones' best days were in the 1990s and early 2000s, when he was considered the best pound for pound fighter in the world for a long period. Nevertheless, beating a fighter of Jones' stature, in the manner in which he did, marked a fitting conclusion to a storied career and the incredible legacy that Calzaghe left behind. Five years on, in late 2013, it was announced that Calzaghe will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame along with other ring legends Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trindad. The induction ceremony will take place this summer.
