Jon Jones Vs Alexander Gustafsson At UFC 178 - Official

Jon Jones will rematch against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 178, UFC have officially announced. It puts to bed a week of unrest in which Jones pushed to face Daniel Corimer, with the MMA promotion desperate for him to face Gustafsson. UFC President Dana White has got his way, we will now see the sequel to what is widely considered one of the best fights in MMA history. Jones vs Gustafsson is signed for the 27th of September as UFC's 178 main event. Jones' Light Heavyweight Championship will be on the line and MMAFighting.com are reporting the location will be Toronto, Canada. That's the same location almost exactly a year to the date of their first fight. After initially being against the fight, perhaps because Gustafsson came so close to beating him last time, Jones is now sounding upbeat. "Man, I feel so alive! my life's crazy," he tweeted, adding "So thankful." He also released a press statement, "There was never an issue with a contract. I was traveling and finally got to Vegas and got to talk with Dana and Lorezno. We talked and September 27th, I'll be fighting Gustafsson. "I think Cormier is the tougher fighter, but the fans want to see me fight Gustafsson. There was never an issue with taking the Gustafsson fight." The champion then went on to cite his brother's summer wedding as the reason he was initially not prepared to sign. In analysing the fight, both men match up very closely. Both are well rounded athletes with dangerous striking. As we witnessed last time, they're amazingly fit, battling for five rounds with great intensity. Jones will be the favourite and has a solid record of 20-1 in the cage. Gustafsson is 16-2 and aged 27 is a year older than Jones. It's an excellent match up, the champion and the number one contender, and given the fame of the first match, UFC will be eyeing a monster PPV buyrate. Dana White commented that "Obviously Jon is right, this if the fight the fans want to see. The great thing about this is, we get Jones vs Gustaffson, and if Jones beast Gustafsson, we get Jones vs Cormier."
