Kung-Fu Kicks, Trawlers & Seagulls - 7 Incredible Eric Cantona Moments

4. Return Versus Liverpool

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgjfgNiaPic After Manchester United suspended Cantona for four months in the 1994/95 season for a kung-fun style kick on a Crystal Palace fan (more on that later), the English FA then imposed a further four months sanction on the Frenchman. There were rumours that Cantona would leave the club, and in spite of signing a contract extension at Old Trafford in August 1995, he then handed in a transfer request citing that he no longer wished to play football in England. Alex Ferguson flatly rejected the request, and Cantona later insisted that he would remain with the club. In spite of Man United missing out on the Premier League during his lengthy absence in 1995 to Blackburn Rovers, it was a decision that worked out for Ferguson when, on his return against Liverpool in the Premier League on 1st October 1995, he provided an assist for Nicky Butt and scored a penalty after Ryan Giggs had been fouled in the area in a 2-2 draw. By the end of the campaign United would win their third title in four seasons.
