Leicester City Vs NUFC: Head-To-Head Analysis

3. Defenders - Wes Morgan (LCFC) Vs Fabricio Coloccini (NUFC)

The captains of both sides have enjoyed mixed fortunes in recent weeks - with Wes Morgan leading Leicester City to four wins from their last five, while Fabricio Coloccini has seen his side lose seven games in succession (albeit he was suspended for three of those after making a terrible challenge on Everton's Aaron Lennon at Goodison Park). In terms of how the two centre-backs compare, Morgan has played in all but one of his side's games this campaign while Coloccini has missed six. They have each contributed just one goal, with Morgan also adding an assist.
However, in the defensive department it is Coloccini who shades the tackles-per-game count (1.9 to 1.5), but Morgan is ahead in both interceptions-per-game (2.5 to 2.2) and clearances-per-game (7.1 to 5.2). Newcastle have conceded 15 in their last seven games while Leicester have been more solid at the back - suggesting Morgan's leadership is also winning out right now. Neither player would get anywhere near a top-four side, but both on their day are solid Premier League defenders.
Verdict: Despite the head-to-head stats, Morgan is the player in better form right now. In terms of overall ability, Coloccini at his best would be the one selected, but he isn't in prime form at the moment.
