4. The Anfield Powers
While LFC is still run by Americans the cowboy hats have been permanently removed from Anfield. FSG have expectations and the Champions League is of course one of them. While setting this as a target for Brendan Rodgers the board have also shown they are being realistic about the expectations: Ian Ayre stated as long as you believe week-to-week, month-to-month and season-to-season you are building on something then people will give you time. This statement shows a belief that the club can get back to its former glories in a sustainable way. Change is afoot at Liverpool. With new FIFA Fair Play sanctions imminent clubs are more aware that they need to adopt a structure like Arsenals and run their football club more in line with the real world. FSG were burnt last year by frivolous spending on players with resale value now of probably half of what the club paid for them. In Brendan Rodgers they have a manager who looks like someone bedding in for a long stay; immediately affecting change in the players thinking and fitting in perfectly with the boards expectations. Rodgers knows he needs to sign players in January that will take the scoring burden off Suarez and allow some of the young players a rest so as to avoid burning them out. The fans are being patient as they too understand the need for change at a club that has seen more then their fair share of turmoil in recent years. The fans are one constant at a football club and Brendans possession football has still not won the whole Kop over yet. You do feel the addition of a goal scorer paired with the Liverpool pass and move philosophy, might change those opinions though. What do you think Liverpool fans- is there enough to be positive about in Rodgers' reign so far? Have your say in the comments section below.
