1. 'Transition'
The transitional period - when a club uses this phrase to describe their season, the message might as well be 'don't expect too much this year guys.' Liverpool, a bit like Arsenal, seem to have been in transitional mode for a few seasons now: signs of promise are contemporaneous with garish disappointments, big name departures and tedious form. For a club with history and worldwide status as excellent as Liverpool have acquired, you would expect a period of transition to be more seamless. As Jose Mourinho arrived at Chelsea, it was probably the only time in the Premiership era that Manchester United's dominance has been truly tested. But as United went through 3 seasons of not winning the title, losing big players like Roy Keane, David Beckham and Jaap Stam, they continued to consistently qualify for the Champion's League, never finishing below third, developing young players like Christiano Ronaldo as they re-emerged to the pinnacle of English football. The lesson that Liverpool should take from this is that the key to getting back to the top is patience and hard work. Whilst Brendan Rodgers is undoubtedly a manager of terrific promise, transforming Liverpool into a team that plays wonderful, winning football every single week will take time; and the process will be slowed down considerably if signings continue to struggle with the demand, or aren't given the chance to develop and prove their potential.
