Liverpool News: Luis Suarez Denies Saying He Wants To Stay
Daily Mail. Yesterday, the 27-year-old was quoted by a Uruguayan newspaper saying he could stay at the Merseyside club for the affection of the people. But it seems as though Suarez has now performed an amazing U-Turn, saying after Uruguay's 4-2 win over Japan yesterday:
"I didnt say that. Maybe someone else did and the main thing is that I am here now with the national team."Suarez's original (alleged) comments to Uruguayan newspaper El Observador were:
"For now, due to all of the people's affection (for me), I will be staying."Uruguayan journalist Martin Chaquero also claimed he had been told Liverpool would keep the club's top goalscorer last season. Chaquero even claimed Suarez could sign a new contract at Anfield.
"Luis Suarez confirms to me he will not leave Liverpool. The support of the fans has influenced his decision. "Suarez see it as likely that he'll sign a renewal (extension) to the contract that binds him to Liverpool."However, a contract extension appears unlikely at best considering the way the striker has behaved in recent times, with his efforts to force through a move to Arsenal leading to manager Brendan Rodgers barring him from training with the first team. Suarez has been the subject of two failed bids from Arsenal, the most recent being an offer of £1 over £40 million, which was instantly rejected by the Reds, who maintain that the player is not for sale. And Rodgers has since refused to answer questions on the ongoing transfer saga and will not be making any more public comments on the issue.
