Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Closing In On Daniel Sturridge
According to BBC Sport, Liverpool are closing in on a £12 million deal for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge. The 23-year-old England forward has been forced mostly to keep the bench warm at Stamford Bridge this season and with Chelsea rumored to be interested in Ecuadorian striker Radamel Falcao, Sturridges future looks set to be away from Chelsea. The former Manchester City player has only played in seven league games for the London club, scoring one goal. Sturridge has been somewhat neglected by new boss Rafa Benitez, with the forward failing to make an appearance under the new Chelsea manager. With Liverpool striker Andy Carroll being loaned out to newly promoted side West Ham, and with the club missing out on Spurs striker Clint Dempsey at the end of the summer, Liverpool have been forced to rely solely on Luis Suarez up top. If the deal for the forward is to be completed, Sturridge will add even more youth to the side, with him lining up next to English teammates Raheem Sterling and Jonjo Shelvey. Liverpool are currently lying in 12th place in the Premier League under new manager Brendan Rodgers and with the club dropping points against the likes of Aston Villa and West Ham, it comes at no surprise that they are wanting to add to their squad. Liverpool are also reportedly close to completing a £6 million deal for Thomas Ince, who left Anfield 18 months ago, under Kenny Dalglish. The Blackpool youngster has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, although it looks like Ince is set to return to Anfield. Whilst Ince and Sturridge are yet to agree personal terms, the deals are set to be completed before the end of the January transfer window.
