Liverpool Transfer News: Reds To Fund Henrikh Mkhitaryan Move With Andy Carroll Sale

The Times. Carroll spent the entirety of last season on loan at Upton Park following his unsuccessful £35 million move to Anfield from Newcastle United in 2011, which is still a British transfer record. And now Liverpool have finally decided to wash their hands of the expensive flop by allowing West Ham to make his loan stay permanent in a £15 million deal. Those proceeds will be used to fund the £23 million move for Armenian star Mkhitaryan, who is understood to be on the verge of signing for the Merseyside giants. The exciting 24-year old is a prolific goal-scoring midfielder who Brendan Rodgers hopes can provide his side with more of a cutting edge when the Premier League gets back underway in August. He scored 25 goals in 28 domestic appearances for Ukrainian side Shakhtar last season and was today expected to undergo a medical with Liverpool before agreeing personal terms. England international Carroll meanwhile is due in London tomorrow to undergo his own medical, with a view to completing his permanent move to West Ham by the end of the week.
