The Slovakian defender arrived at Anfield in 2008 for a fee of £6.5M from Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg and he has proved exceptional value for money. The centre-back has made almost 200 appearances for Liverpool, always giving 100% every game. Although he spent a few years in and out of the Liverpool team due to the presence of Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger, Skrtel was always ready to step up when asked to do so and scored in Liverpool's 2012 League Cup victory over Cardiff City. His loyalty was rewarded was season when the 29-year-old was the centre of Liverpool's defence and started 36 games during the Premier League campaign and aided Liverpool to a 2nd place finish. Skrtel is very much an old-fashioned centre-back - good in the air, hard in the tackle and gives attackers little to work with. He also isn't shy of goals, as he bagged seven in the league last season - more than any defender. Now that the Reds go for the Premier League title again, Skrtel is very much a key player in doing so playing alongside Dejan Lovren at the heart of the defence.
