Liverpool Transfers: 10 Best Ever Bargains

9. Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho joined Liverpool in January 2012 after falling out of favour at Inter Milan for a fee of £8.5M. Some doubted his abilities before he pulled on a Red shirt, after all why would Brendan Rodgers bring in an out-of-favour player from a depreciating side? However the Brazilian proved his critics wrong from the early stages of his time on Merseyside. He is a wizard on the ball, so skilful that he went past defenders like they were non-existent and usually combined that with a cutting edge through ball. When you compare Coutinho to his fellow countryman Oscar, who signed for Chelsea for £25M, the fee the Reds paid was a complete bargain. He continued his progress in the 2013/14 season, menacing defenders throughout the campaign and ended with and pitching in with seven goals - including the winner in a 3-2 home victory against Manchester City. Coutinho was one of Liverpool's stand-out players and football fans across the world were baffled when he was left out of Brazil's World Cup squad. However, that has not stopped the 22-year-old from carrying on were he left off for the Reds and has been labelled "the brains behind the team" by his boss.
