Liverpool Transfers: 10 Ridiculous Rumours That Never Came Off

5. Diego Forlan

Diego ForlanSource: Daily Mail One of many ex Manchester United players to be linked with an Anfield move was Diego Forlan back in 2011. Forlan was at Atletico Madrid, a club where he had managed 96 goals in 134 appearances. However his form had dipped in recent years managing just 8 goals in 34 league appearances that season. Forlan was after a move to a club in the Champions League, a position Liverpool were far from. Forlan ran nowhere near Liverpool€™s transfer policy of signing young players they could develop, Forlan was 32. Liverpool had a poor summer, signing the likes of Adam and Henderson and they were never ever likely to make a move for Forlan, who apparently wanted mega wages. Liverpool probably got off lightly with this one, the Uruguayan striker ended up at Inter Milan where he managed just two goals and left after just a year for Brazilian club Internacional. This could be described as a close miss for Liverpool but Forlan had little intention of going to Anfield and Liverpool had little intention of signing him.
