Liverpool Transfers: 10 Summer Signings Rodgers Must Make

Midfield

Arguably the most congested area of the Liverpool squad. But with Rodgers forced to play a 32-year old Steven Gerrard for every minute of the Premier League season so far, it shows how few options he has. And although Lucas is getting stronger with every game and Jordan Henderson is starting to show signs of why so much money was paid for him, Liverpool are still lacking that presence in midfield that they had with Alonso and Mascherano.

5. Xabi Alonso, (Central Midfielder), Real Madrid

xabi alonso Still a fan favourite with Liverpool supporters Alonso, who€™s contract negotiations are currently stalling at Real, would offer that little bit of culture Liverpool fans have been craving for the last few seasons. There was no secret that, ability aside, Alonso€™s personality was missed when he moved back to his native Spain €“ and with another big personality retiring in the form of Jamie Carragher, re-signing this ex hero would be the perfect tonic.

6. Christian Eriksen, (Central Midfielder) Ajax

A more realistic option would be 20-year-old Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen. FSG would be more likely to meet the asking price for this composed midfielder due to his age. According to his agent, Eriksen is flattered by interest from The Reds. But as we all know this tactic is normally used to drive up the price and start a bidding war between Europe€™s elite clubs. Eriksen may have his head turned as Liverpool play a similar style of football to Ajax and he may like the idea of linking up with fellow Dane Daniel Agger.
