Who's the last piece of the puzzle in Klopp's new midfield?

Silly season is well and truly upon us. What once looked to be a relatively simple transfer window for Liverpool and manager Jürgen Klopp has now turned into a markedly more complex one, as the club's failed pursuit of Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir has complicated matters.

Though Klopp will be able to count on midfield reinforcements in the form of former Leipzig no. 8 Naby Keita and Fabinho come the new season, work still needs to be done. At the top of the German's wish-list was an attacking midfielder who could fill the void left behind by the departure of Philippe Coutinho, and while Fekir was set to be unveiled as his replacement last Friday, with the player even going so far as to record an interview with LFC TV before jetting off with the France squad to Russia, the move mysteriously collapsed overnight.

Focus will now turn to other targets, with the club's pursuit of a new goalkeeper and another wide player (potentially Stoke's Xerdan Shaqiri), set to round off Liverpool's transfer activity this summer window.

That last piece of the club's new midfield still needs filling though, and with news of a move for West Ham's Manuel Lanzini having been scuppered by an injury sustained on international duty, the shortlist narrows by the day.
