Liverpool Transfers: 5 Alternatives To Nabil Fekir
1. Marco Asensio
There's little doubt that Marco Asensio is one of the brightest Spanish talents to have emerged in recent years, but while there's no denying the player's quality, opportunities at Real Madrid continue to be limited.
As is the case with fellow Spanish midfielder Isco (who has also been tentatively linked to Liverpool in the past), Asensio finds himself behind the likes of Ronaldo, Bale and Vasquez. While he's obviously rated by the Madrid hierarchy, having been dubbed Ronaldo's successor in the past, sitting on the bench just isn't doing the 22 year-old any good - even if the silverware is nice.
Speculation surrounding Asensio and Isco has ratcheted up considerably over the last year or so, with Spanish paper Don Balon having even reported that Liverpool tabled a bid of £131 million for the midfielder in January after the sale of Coutinho.
While the legitimacy of that particular report is questionable, a Liverpool move for Asensio makes plenty of sense. He, like the club's former no. 10, can operate further forward or in a deeper role, and with the player yet to reach his full potential, the sky truly is the limit.
It remains to be seen whether or not Liverpool will return for Fekir after the World Cup, but if they don't, finding alternatives could prove an arduous task. Reds fans will be hoping it's all sorted by the end of August.
