5. Huntelaar, Klaas-Jan

Current team: Schalke 04 Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been an absolute revelation in Germany. The imposing front man has had a very productive last 12 months in which he outscored compatriot Robin van Persie. Last season The Hunter scored a very impressive 40 goals in 39 domestic and European games for Schalke. Form like this is what made teams like Real Madrid and AC Milan pay big money for him - and although his time at these two great clubs is probably considered a failure by most it is also a true indication that Huntelaar is now in his prime and right now is the best time to have the striker in your squad. He's like a fine wine - he just gets better with age. Would He Fit The Role? If you watch the Bundesliga closely, many pundits believe it to be the closest league in Europe to that of the Premier League (in terms of general type of play) and beings as the Bundesliga is the league where Huntelaar has had the most success with regards to his goalscoring exploits I believe he would have the necessary physical prowess and talent to succeed in the English game. His finishing is on another level to anything Liverpool currently have in their squad, with a record of over 1 in every 2 games, (even Luis Suarez - who can be quite wasteful) and his ability to also come short and link up with midfielders is something Rodgers may also be keen on - his ability to link the play is something BR may even demand from any potential signings. However, there are some concerns over whether he'd actually fit the role at Liverpool. Yes, he can play the lone frontman but Luis Suarez is currently occupying that spot and he's thriving on it at the moment. Pushing Suarez out wide into one of the winger spots of the 4-3-3 system may upset the diminutive Uruguayan and Liverpool cannot afford to lose their star player at any cost. Although, Suarez's awesome ability to create chances for his team mates may make this type of idea work - it all depends on whether Suarez would like to play out wide or not. Time will tell on this one if BR does decide to make a move but one thing I am sure of is that near enough every Liverpool fan would be licking their lips at the thought of Luis Suarez and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar back in the same team - as they were, successfully, at Ajax. In my opinion, I think he'd fit the role at Liverpool very well. Would he fit? Definitely. What's The Likelihood? The great thing about Huntelaar is his availability. His contract is up in the summer of 2013 and that means he can speak to any club representatives he likes during the January transfer window. And due to this fact it is very conceivable that Schalke will want to cash in on the forward during January to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer - like Arsenal decided to do with RVP and also what Athletic Bilbao may need to do with Fernando Llorente. This all means that Huntelaar could go for anything under £8million pounds and that's a huge bargain for someone so gifted, especially compared to the signing of Andy Carroll for £35m - the decision that Liverpool are now haunted by. Huntelaar does not meet two of these criteria (at 29 he does not represent a realistic chance of a player with resale value and nor is he young in footballing terms) and that could scupper any hopes BR has of signing the Dutchman. Another potential stumbling block for BR is the apparent interest of Arsenal. Who knows if they're actually interested or if BBC Sport's editors have just dreamed up a new string of gossip to keep us enticed to the sports news section - is Arsene ready to give up on summer signing Giroud already?
