Liverpool Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Brendan Rodgers Must Sign Philippe Coutinho

2. Versatility - Options, Options, Options

Philippe Coutinho is primarily an attacking midfielder, but the versatile youngster can also play out-wide or in the No.10 role as a second striker. His addition to the squad would provide Brendan Rodgers with several varied options in going forward; winger Stewart Downing has hardly hit the ground running following his switch from Aston Villa in 2011, and has scored only five goals in two seasons. He could also help take the pressure off Luis Suarez up front by helping out as a second striker, or if Daniel Sturridge is under-performing, could act as cover in that department. The playmaker would also be a good addition to the centre of Liverpool's midfield alongside Steven Gerrard, as previously mentioned. Source(s): Liverpool Echo
