Liverpool's 8 Worst Individual Errors Of The Last 25 Years

8. Jamie Carragher's FA Cup Final Own Goal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsApNfJ06eI Carragher was a truly outstanding player for Liverpool over many, many years, and he is deservedly regarded as one of the greatest centre-backs in the history of the club. If there was one thing that the boyhood Evertonian was guilty of, however, it was an abundance of own goals. He scored seven in the Premier League alone, but it was his catastrophic error in the 2006 FA Cup Final that was his most memorable. Rafa Benitez's side were much-fancied to see off the challenge of West Ham and lift their second cup trophy in two years, following their 2005 Champions League win, but Carragher ensured the Reds got off to the worst possible start. Lionel Scaloni's cross was seemingly going to be cut out by the Liverpool legend, but he got his legs in a tangle and diverted the ball past Pepe Reina to gift the Hammers the lead. When Dean Ashton made it 2-0 soon after, it looked as though Carragher was going to be a villain on the day, but luckily his old mate Steven Gerrard bailed him out with a virtuoso display, winning the cup almost single-handedly for Benitez's men.
