7. Ronnie Whelan's Own Goal Against United
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQbyOjIrAIY As it turns out, this disastrous moment from Whelan didn't end up costing Liverpool, much like Carragher's aforementioned moment of madness, but it remains one of the most memorable own goals in many a year. Kenny Dalglish's side were on their way to yet another First Division title in March 1990- it would prove to be the last league title Liverpool won- when they faced bitter rivals United at Old Trafford. A John Barnes-inspired Reds side were 2-0 up in the second-half, with the majestic former England winger scoring both goals, when Whelan gifted the hosts a way back into the game. The midfielder, who such an incredibly solid member of the side over a long period of time, inexplicably lobbed the ball back in the direction of Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, chipping him to perfection in the process. It gave United momentum, as they looked for an equaliser that would have dented their rivals' title hopes, but luckily they held on. It was a moment that Whelan is still ribbed about to this day.
