If you are given the nickname 'God' by Liverpool fans, you have to be a pretty special player. Fowler was exactly that, and was quite possibly the most natural finisher to have played for the club. For a few years he was unstoppable. Fowler scored on his debut in September 1993, and went from strength to strength from that point on, scoring 18 that season. In the three years that followed (1994/95, 1995/96 and 1996/97), the young striker scored 71 Premier League goals in just 112 matches, and won the PFA Young Player of the Year award in both '95 and '96. He was a character both on and off the pitch, and was a hero to many. Despite still only being in his early 20s at this point, this proved to be the absolute peak of Fowler's career. Injuries curtailed his progress, and although he still contributed greatly, especially in 2000/01, he was not the player he once was. He left in 2001 to join Leeds, but made a surprise return to Anfield under Benitez in 2006 for a brief spell. The ovation he received when he came on to make his second debut for the club was spine-tingling. Fowler is a Reds legend, and get the nod ahead of Michael Owen, who was also a great striker.
