Man City Transfers: 10 Players Screwed By Citizens’ Ludicrous Transfer Policies
5. Stefan Savic
In 2011, Manchester City signed Stefan Savic from Serbian side Partizan Belgrade despite the fact they already had cover at centre-back in Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott. The defender was seldom used at Etihad Stadium, and made only 11 appearances during a one-season spell at the club. Savid was only called into action when Kompany was injured and Lescott rested, and made just about enough appearances to scrape into eligibility for a Premier League winners' medal during City's title-winning season in 2011-12. However, the then-21-year-old was always going to play second fiddle to the likes of Kompany and was sold to Fiorentina after just 12 months as part of the deal that brought Matija Nastasic the other way. That proved to be a poor choice because Savic has gone on to excel for the Italians, starting all of his new side's 31 Serie A games last season, while Nastasic has floundered. The Serbian defender made only 13 league appearances for the Citizens last season and City may well have had a more-able centre-back option had they given youth a chance.
