Man City Transfers: 10 Players Screwed By Citizens’ Ludicrous Transfer Policies

4. Emmanuel Adebayor

Manchester City have adopted a strange transfer policy over the last few years in that they have started signing more and more players from Arsenal. At times, this has worked well, with the likes of Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy going on to forge successful careers at Eastlands by winning trophies they otherwise might have missed out on at the Emirates. However, there are a few examples of this policy going awry, with Emmanuel Adebayor in particular enduring a difficult period after swapping the Gunners for the Citizens. Adebayor was signed by City for £25 million in 2009 with the club's new owners looking to ruffle a few feathers following their big-money takeover. The Togo star's switch from Arsenal to a direct rival certainly did that. His purchase was petty in truth. City were looking to show the world they were the new top dogs in town and that they could sign anyone they wanted too, and they soon got bored of Adebayor. Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli were both chosen ahead of him and he was eventually loaned to Real Madrid in 2011. But not before a controversial game against his former club in which Adebayor ran the full length of the pitch after scoring against the Gunners to celebrate, forever alienating himself from the Arsenal faithful. His move to City was a mistake and had no happy ending for either party.
